Black faced spoonbills eat small fish like the size of a shrimp. Their biggest threat was the Korean War in Korea (1950-1953) because the birds ceased nesting in Korea at that time. In Hong Kong, it is a protected species under the Wild Animals Protection Ordinance Cap 170. In Mai Po Marshes, a quarter of the world's population of Black-faced Spoonbill can be found during migration. The global population of this speicies, based on the winter population count carried out in 1988-1990 in all known sites, was estimated to be very low. The black faced spoonbill is always around water because of their food, fish. Female black faced spoonbills are bigger than the male black faced spoonbill and has more color. Also the Immature Spoonbill is larger and has very little coloring. The black faced spoonbill is endangered because of loss of habitat and hunters.
